Maps have always fascinated us. We love browsing through the works of old masters such as Abraham Ortelius or Johannes Blaeu. They have inspired us to create our own world map.

The foundation is a vector based map that was turned into a bitmap and subsequently stylized. A lot of time went into finding the right colours and subtle effects to match the recognizable classical style we were aiming at.

Result

Our classical world map contains all the countries of the modern world, but has been designed in a way that's reminiscent of 16th and 17th century map makers, using classic colouring and cartographic elements on a Mercator projection. As a little extra we also added a couple of the most influential voyages of discovery of that same time period, featuring Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus and Abel Tasman.
